Cardiothoracic Surgery

Valve repair, transplantation and thoracic oncology.

Cardiothoracic surgery is being reshaped by transcatheter encroachment on traditional terrain, the maturation of donation after circulatory death (DCD) heart transplantation, and ex-vivo organ perfusion technologies (TransMedics OCS, normothermic regional perfusion). GCSA 2027 will cover minimally invasive and robotic mitral repair, aortic valve neocuspidization (Ozaki procedure), and contemporary CABG with multi-arterial grafting. Thoracic sessions focus on robotic lobectomy and segmentectomy, uniportal VATS, lung transplantation with EVLP, and the integration of neoadjuvant immunotherapy into resectable NSCLC pathways.

Focus areas
  • DCD heart transplantation and normothermic regional perfusion (NRP)
  • Ex-vivo organ perfusion: OCS Heart, Lung, and Liver platforms
  • Robotic and minimally invasive mitral and tricuspid repair
  • Aortic valve neocuspidization (Ozaki) and root reconstruction
  • Uniportal VATS and robotic segmentectomy for early-stage NSCLC
  • Multi-arterial CABG and hybrid coronary revascularization
  • Mechanical circulatory support: HeartMate 3, Impella 5.5, ECMO bridging
